Meet the person behind Positive Perinatal NYC!
Positive Perinatal NYC aims to offer sliding - scale childbirth education services to birthing people across New York City. I hope to combine my love for birth with my passion for social justice to help combat the health disparities amongst birthing people.
Tyla (she/her), Founder
Tyla is a 25 year old New York City native. She is an alumna of the Rory Meyers College of Nursing, which she graduated from in May 2018 with her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. Her focus is on helping expecting parents have a positive and powerful experience during pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. She is passionate about educating families in order to allow them to make informed decisions and be active participants in their care. As a queer black woman, her focus is working with low-income, black and brown and/or LGBTQ individuals to increase their access to birth services. She is currently a Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse and recently graduated from SUNY Downstate, where she received her Master’s in Nurse-Midwifery. She hopes to one day get her PhD, focusing on issues of LGBTQ inclusion in birthwork and health practices.
